VILLAGE COUNCIL
The role and responsibilities of the Village Council are prescribed by the Village Charter. Since incorporation on December 31, 1997, Islamorada has operated under the council-manager form of municipal government. Islamorada has a five-member Village Council, each member representing the Village at large. Islamorada Village Council Members are appointed to two-year terms.
The Mayor in a council-manager form of government is the ceremonial head of the municipality, presides over council meetings and is recognized as the head of Village government for ceremonial matters. The Mayor is an important political figure, but does not have a role in day-to-day municipal administration. In Islamorada, the Mayor is appointed by fellow members of the Village Council for a one-year Mayoral term.
