FINAL DESIGN FOR THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OVER US 1 AT FOUNDERS PARK
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will construct a permanent pedestrian bridge over US 1/Overseas Highway at Founders Park, Mile Marker 87 in Islamorada. The project will include widening the existing paved shoulders, constructing roadside barrier walls, realigning the asphalt trail and improving drainage.
A public meeting was held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 to allow the public an opportunity to review the projects design and have questions answered by FDOT representatives. Input from the public meeting and from the Islamorada Village Council was considered by the FDOT to create the final design pictured below.
Pedestrian bridge design finalized November 27, 2018.
Construction of the pedestrian bridge is scheduled to begin in November 2019.
