A message from Colleen Hammon regarding COVID-19 Precautions & Procedures:
I will be following the American Red Cross guidelines for implementing measures to safely teach the Learn to Swim program and Swim Lessons. An adult from the same household will be required to participate in the lessons. This can be a parent or caregiver, including an older sibling. The adult in the water will work hands-on with the participant under my guidance from in the water or on deck.
The adult must be able to:
1. Handle themselves and the child in whatever water depths and conditions in which the activity is taking place (we always use the shallow end for the non-swimmers).
2. Respond to a situation where the child needs help, such as an unexpected submersion.
Lessons will be 25 minutes long, giving me 5 minutes to wipe down the pool railings in-between lessons. I will use a toy doll to demonstrate the skill that the child will be doing.
I encourage the adults to bring their own dive and floaty toys. I will be maintaining appropriate spacing that meets social distancing guidance with participants, and I will be wearing a clear protective shield on my face.
The Ron Levy Aquatic Center already has in place a roped-off section of the pool for teaching the Learn to Swim program.
