Parks for Everyone
Islamorada, Village of Islands is proud of our protection of greenspace. We actively seek and acquire land for conservation and recreation. The 40-acre Islamorada Founders Park on Plantation Key is a Jewel by the Ocean.
Village municipal parks also include the Islamorada Library Park Beach, Anne’s Beach, Southwinds Park, Key Tree Cactus Nature Preserve, Plantation Tropical Preserve, Green Turtle Hammock Nature Preserve, and Plantation Hammock Preserve. There is the Windley Key State Geological Site, a state park, at the site of a former coral rock quarry. In addition to shady walks through unique foliage, fossils of sea creatures can be seen throughout the park. A free guidebook is available at the visitors center for use during your stay in the park.
Islamorada, Village of Islands is located about halfway between Miami and Key West. Nicknamed the Sportfishing Capital of the World, Village boundaries extend from the west end of Tavernier Creek Bridge to the west end of Channel Two Bridge. The Keys are marked by green numbered posts called mile markers (denoted MM). Islamorada’s corresponding mile markers are from 90.9 to 72.6. At Islamorada’s east or northern end is the island of Plantation Key. Going south and west, the next island is Windley Key, followed by Upper Matecumbe Key and Lower Matecumbe Key.
Each key offers varying recreational amenities. There are parks on each of Islamorada’s four islands, each with a unique character. Whether you seek active recreation or more passive relaxation, Islamorada’s parks are sure to please. Islamorada also offers an 18-mile bicycle path that extends the length of the Village.
