Chery Meads Resigns from Islamorada Village Council
Cheryl Meads submitted a letter on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 resigning from the Islamorada Village Council. Cheryl cited the great investment of time, energy and focus necessary for her to serve as a member of the South Florida Water Management District Governing Board. In her resignation letter, Cheryl stated, "I'd like to thank the citizens of Islamorada for the opportunity to serve. I am certain we will continue to cross paths as it takes all of us in local and regional public service working together to continue to make strides for the good of our communities."
Cheryl continues to serve a three-year term as a member of the South Florida Water Management District Governing Board to which she was appointed by Governor DeSantis in February 2019.
The remaining Village Council Members are now tasked with appointing a person to serve the remainder of Cheryl's term which ends following the regularly scheduled election in November 2020. In accordance with the Village Charter, Council has 30 days to fill the vacant seat. Council will have their first opportunity to discuss a replacement this Thursday at the January 9, 2020 Regular Village Council Meeting. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Founders Park Community Center, 87000 Overseas Hwy., Islamorada.
