SPECIAL CALL VILLAGE COUNCIL MEETING
TO DISCUSS “THE FILLS”
TUESDAY, JUNE 18TH AT 5:30 PM
The Islamorada Village Council will hold a Special Call Village Council Meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18th to continue discussions and identify options for how to address the often-chaotic conditions, damage to the mangroves and shoreline, and the enormous amounts of trash left behind by visitors at the Fills on weekends and holidays. The meeting will be held at the Founders Park Community Center, 87000 Overseas Highway, Islamorada.
The Fills is the roadway and adjacent land along US 1 connecting Upper Matecumbe and Lower Matecumbe Keys, approximately Mile Marker 77.5 to 79.8. Most of the area belongs to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT); a portion of northern end of the fills belongs to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
The Village Council called the Special Call Meeting to gather public input in advance of a meeting the Mayor will attend with FDOT and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office later in the week. The meeting with FDOT and the Sheriff's Office is not a public meeting. People interested in providing their comments and ideas about how to address the activity on the Fills should plan to attend the Islamorada Special Call Village Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 18th.Those unable to attend the meeting are invited to submit comments and suggestions by email to the Village Clerk for dissemination to all Village Council Members and the Village Manager. Please send your email to email@example.com by noon on Monday, June 17th to ensure Council Members receive it in time to review it before the Special Call Meeting.
The meeting will be provided live via webcast from Islamorada's Live Webcast Meetings page and will be broadcast live on Comcast (within Village limits only).
