MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE

The Matecumbe Historical Trust will hold its annual Memorial Day Service to remember those who gave their lives while serving in the country's armed forces. The service will be held on Monday, May 27th at 9:00 a.m. at the Hurricane Monument, Mile Marker 81.8 Overseas Highway in Islamorada.
The service is open to the public and residents and visitors are encouraged to attend in observance of Memorial Day. The ceremony that will begin with Barbara Edgar, President of the Matecumbe Historical Trust, making the introductory welcome presentation, followed by the invocation, Guest Speakers, Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, a brief history of the Hurricane Monument, and the laying of the memorial wreath. America the Beautiful and Proud to be an American will be sung by Dan Furmanik, followed by the benediction.
The monument was dedicated in 1937 to honor the Veterans and civilians killed in the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Please join the Matecumbe Historical Trust to honor and remember those who have died in the American armed forces while serving our nation.
